All I can say is, wow.

Fellow Ottawa firm, Select Start Studios have just had their iPhone application approved—if you use Basecamp, and an iPhone (or an iPod Touch), I suggest stopping what you are currently doing (because it’s most likely illegal, at least in some countries) and buying it.

We often hear bold statements like “welcome to the future”, or “the future is now”, but despite these catch-phrases, the “future” really is looming—and fast. I think I’ve seen 2 recent examples of what we can expect in the not-so-distant—and both have to do with money, how we manage it, and from the devices we manage it with. The 1st is our financial instituion. Our bank has just released a great iPhone/iPod Touch application that can do just about anything the browser—or even the ATM—can do. All from your couch. For all the short-comings we’ve experienced with our business banking over the past 5 years—this is 1 area they seem to be leading the way in. Mobile banking. I love it.
The other mention is “Square”. Square is going to prove to be a genuine game-changer. I’ll shut up, and let the website do the talking.

We used “Quad Camera” on the iPhone to shoot our projects a-la Lomography-style. Quad Camera is a fantastic app for the iPhone. Wish I had one.

I am kinda’ shocked that Wordpress can not get it’s own iPhone app (at version 2.1 as well) to play nice with this iPod Touch (which is a 2nd generation, with the very latest OS installed). Do I dig “blogging” from an iPod? Not really—but I certainly like having the option. I think most would agree. I just wonder how deeply this version was tested—and it’s certainly not just this app, either. As any iPhone owner knows, the App Store is littered with scathing reviews and complaints about apps that simply do not function-as-advertised. With respect to an entity like Wordpress, however—I am a little surprised.
If you develop iPhone/iPod Touch apps: please, test, and then test again. Then test again—then again at 3AM on a Sunday night when Saturn’s outer ring is in line with the eastern edge of the CN Tower.
Test, test—then test again. Test using my cat Pancakes if you have to—I bet she’ll find a bug. She always does around here…

Vellum is a brand-new drawing app now available in the App Store. It’s currently a little shaky on my iPod Touch, but I’m sure an update is already in-the-works.
That Blackberry must feel like a brick in your hand.

Just testing the new Wordpress 2.0 for iPhone and iPod Touch. So far, it’s unstable, it freezes, and seems sluggish. So, is it an improvement from v1.0? Not really.
I have very little interest in posting photos from a mobile device—no Photoshop, no control—and I am a control freak.
Nothing to see here, move along, move along…

Atebits released “Tweetie 2” late last week to App Store, and if you have not already updated from v1.0, I can’t recommend this more. It will cost you—$2.99, as it is a complete overhaul.
