Andy Gilmore

I love this guy’s work. So simple, so hypnotic, so effective. Looks like he designed the cover for the latest Wired Magazine, which actually caused me to stop, pick-it-up, and eventually buy it.

Design is Design

img-notable

I’ve always been very clear, that I do not, and never have, hold any preference with regard to a platform, or technology when it comes to the web. As a designer, I’ve always held the belief that “design-is-design”. If I view a web experience that was developed using Flash, and that experience in-turn delivers a great brand experience, loads in a respectable amount of time, is aesthetically pleasing, and delivers it’s core message and intent quickly—then that’s great design to me. If I view a web experience that is built using standards-compliant (or close enough to it, I’m not that anal) XHTML, and is styled with some great CSS, and this experience also covers all the points mentioned above—then that is also great design to me.

I don’t discriminate. There is already enough design discrimination out there—there’s no need for another Flash-hater on the web. I’m a design lover, regardless of how you deliver your pixels to my browser.

Notable is a great example of great design. You may disagree, and find it boring or dull, and that’s fine. I see the power and the beauty right away.

Hold Your Wig

img-idrum

iDrum: Club Edition has got to be of the best iPhone drum machine applications currently available. It’s actually much more than just a standard drum machine—it’s 1 part sound fx generator, 1 part beat-maker, and 1 part sequencer. You’ll be rocking some imaginary dancefloor somewhere in seconds.

Regarding the title: “Hold Your Wig”. Those that were there—know. I was.

Twinglish

More and more, I am finding that people’s tweets are becoming increasingly cryptic and hard to understand (without having to follow the even more cryptic tinyurl). I’ve always felt that I should be able to know exactly what the “tweeter” is trying to tell us, without having to resort to clicking the url.

Let’s all tweet in plain English. I know I do.

iFont

Very cool. A typography resource-style app for the iPhone. Hopefully this is at least somewhat of an in-depth application, and I would also hope it is something that offers true value—and not some re-hash of web-based data that we are all already extremely intimate with. I’ve always felt that graphic design as an industry, is currently quite neglected within the App Store…

Hopefully this starts to change.
