Hobnox

This blows my mind: a full-featured retro studio, 100% Flash-based. Does this blow your mind? I doubt it. We are spoiled. We’ve come to expect amazing things like this coming from our web browsers. I’ll never lose sight of how bloody mind-blowing this actually is…

I love acid.

The Wire

45royale Inc serve-up an article on the importance of wireframing your design. I don’t get the opportunity to wireframe very often, as much of the work we do is of the highly-customized-Flash-experience-type, but I do feel it to be an important part of the design process when it comes to developing successful interaction design, and site architecture, for larger, content-heavy websites. If a website consists of 147 pages of varied content, and is 9 levels deep in structure—I’d be wireframin’ that shit.

The Drone

One of the most fascinating App Store categories is the music section, and some of the most original are the generative music production apps. I’ve enjoyed using “Bloom” by Brian Eno immensely, but I came across a generative music production gem titled “SynthPond“. It’s almost like a hybrid between “Bloom“, and a standard audio sequencing application. When these 2 apps allow for export to WAV, I am going to town, and will start producing my own experiments of ambient soundscapes. The future is friendly, and it is full of droning sounds…

303, 808, 909

iPhonemusician.com is quite the incredible blog-resource for everything you could ever want: all the major iPhone sequencer apps, mobile recording studios, and classic analog synths are reviewed—and when available, video demos are provided. Special attention is paid to the classic Roland drum machines and classic synth emulator apps.

I love acid. I really do.

Typographica

Typographica looks like a fantastic (I say that word too much) typography resource. I have yet to dig deep, but from what I have seen thus far, this just might become my “1-stop-shop” for all-things-type on the web (which is what I want—1 great resource, for each topic. Wouldn’t that be great?).

The 99%

The Odopod blog has a new article about the recent 99% Conference that took place last week. They leave us with a brilliant little list of key takeaways, that can be applied to our own internal design process, on our own projects—be they personal, or professional…

  • Keep it simple.
Don’t over design. Embrace the obvious. Originality is overrated.
  • Tap into passion.
It’s not going to be easy, so you’ll need to have conviction and energy to push past adversity.
  • Have a bias for action.
Just do it. Be scrappy. Take matters into your own hands if necessary.
  • Use communal forces.
Partnerships are powerful. Being part of a community holds you accountable.
  • Maintain maniacal focus.
Stay focused. Be organized. Write things down and check things off.
  • Open source your execution.
Create a big tent for your ideas. Having a “platform” lets others participate. Fuel an idea with the strength and wisdom of the crowd.

Buamai

One of the most original and interesting iPhone applications: Buamai.

From the mind of world-renowned graphic artist, Michael Paul Young.

Contract Killer

I like this bloke, Andy Clarke. I came across his article he wrote for 24ways, on the importance of issuing, signing, and standing by your own contract(s) in this industry…

Rutledge

I generally enjoy the writings of Andy Rutledge, and I felt his latest article was worth sharing here. At times his writing can be rather wordy, and some posts can drag on and ramble a little—but I don’t think I’ve come across a design writer quite as gifted as he is. I don’t agree with everything he says (or stands for), but he has definitely made me think long and hard about some subjects—more than once.

One thing Andy is, is a true design professional. I don’t think there is any debating that. For those interested, his design work can be viewed at Unit Interactive (his studio), and his writings can be accessed here.

iPhone Nano

iphone

Interesting article from iA (Information Architects) about some future iPhone concepts. I’ve seen mock-ups for an iPhone Nano before, and I actually think it would be a great addition to the existing iPhone line (which, of course, consists of ony 1 device)…
